Acclimatization Day

I found the concept of acclemetization day quite fascinating. As you reach a higher elevation in the mountains, you have trouble breathing, you don’t feel like eating or drinking much.

In order to acclimatize yourself, you climb about 1000ft on some nearby hill and come back down. Suddenly, everything is different. The same place that you refused to eat the night before now serves the most appetizing meal. Headache is gone and you feel perfectly normal.

Your body has just undergone a remarkable transformation. It’s as if a switch has been flipped, and everything feels right again.

You see, the only thing that really changed that day was that your body had to endure something worse. It had, to push through the discomfort and adapt to the new reality of higher elevation. In doing so, it reset its expectations of normal. Even though seemingly nothing changed, everything did.
